Contreras named Girls soccer coach

William Contreras

GRC and RDC boys assistant soccer coach William Contreras has been named GRC Girls Soccer coach.

A former semi-professional soccer player, Coach Contreras holds a National D Coaching License, the highest level of U.S. Soccer coaching licenses (9V9 and 11V11), and is certified as an NFHS Level 1 Coach.

A native of Guatemala, Contreras began playing the sport at the age of 4. A year after joining a competitive league at the age of 15, he was recruited to the semi-pro team, Federation of Guatemala, based in Antigua.

After his 20-year semi-pro career, Contreras played with Division 3 team Pensativo until an ACL injury ended his playing career. He stayed on with the team in a coaching capacity until moving to Kentucky in 2018.

Since living in Winchester, Contreras has coached recreational, RDC boys and GRC boys. He also trains goalie keepers at GRC while serving as assistant coach.

Coach Contreras and his wife, Gloria (Shearer), a third grade teacher at Shearer Elementary and native Clark Countian, have two sons, Luca and Noah.

“I am excited to bring my knowledge and experience of the game to the girls of GRC,” Contreras said. “Let’s protect the house and bring home victories.”
